Liberty Mutual Completes Deal for Ireland’s Quinn Insurance Operations

The Boston-based Liberty Mutual Group announced it has successfully completed the planned acquisition of Quinn’s Irish insurance business, as well as the transfer of all existing Quinn Insurance employees to Liberty Mutual’s new Irish company, which “plans to trade under the name of Liberty Insurance. The company will continue to operate from existing offices in Cavan, Dublin and Enniskillen, with Cavan as the headquarters,” said the bulletin.

Doug Morgan, a previous chairman of the Missouri Employers Mutual Insurance board and former head of the St. Louis County planning Commission, was found dead yesterday morning.

He had been scheduled to be in court yesterday to determine whether he was too sick to go to trial on charges of bank and wire fraud, his lawyer said.

Best co. has commented that the financial strength rating (FSR) of A- (Excellent) and the issuer credit ratings (ICR) of “a-” of Penn National Insurance (Penn National) and its members, Pennsylvania National Mutual Casualty Insurance Company (Penn Mutual), Penn National Security Insurance Company (all three domiciled in Harrisburg, PA) and Founders Insurance Company (Lawrenceville, NJ) remain unchanged following the recent announcement that Penn National has entered into an affiliation agreement with Partners Mutual Insurance Company (Partners) (Waukesha, WI).

Colorado Panel to Examine Pinnacol Privatization Proposal

A proposal to privatize the state-chartered workers’ compensation insurer, PinnacolAssurance, would give Colorado a $340 million ownership stake while restructuring it as a subsidiary of a mutual insurance holding company owned by policyholders.

Pinnacol said Thursday its proposal would provide the state an estimated $13.6 million in annual dividends to  support education and business development and make Pinnacol a tax-paying entity.
