When Obama borrows $3Trillion to Nationalize Health Care, will he Lay Off the 5 Million Insurance Billing jobs?
Is this putting Obama's promise to create 5 million new jobs, behind a 10 Million Jobs Lost 8-Ball
Careful choices can limit health care costs
Millions of people have lost their jobs in recent years, and with that, their health insurance.
For some, being added to the health insurance plan of your spouse or partner — if the employer offers it — might be a solution. But if that’s not possible, here are some options:
Neill Mohammad: Our two health care markets
The health care reform bill that was passed last year means that Michigan, like all states, is required to set up something called a “health insurance exchange.” this past week, the state Senate passed a bill to begin the process of developing that exchange, which is a fancy way to describe a website where people without health insurance can shop for coverage. In response, Scott Hagerstrom, head of a statewide organization called “Americans for Prosperity of Michigan,” likened the bill to a “declaration of war on the Tea Party.”
John Hancock cuts 116 jobs in Boston
John Hancock Financial Services said today it is cutting 116 jobs in Boston, or about 3 percent of its local workforce.
The insurance company, a unit of Toronto-based Manulife Financial, said the cutbacks are part of efforts to streamline operations and restructure its annuity business. Insurance companies have been under pressure because of the weak economy, reducing demand for life insurance and other optional products even as wild swings in the stock markets and unusually low interest rates make it harder for financial institutions to earn returns on investments.

The Surrey Tavern.
The closure of a city centre pub which once proved popular with Norwich Union staff has been blamed on the loss of jobs and relocation of remaining workers at the insurance giant.
The Surrey Tavern on Surrey Street is on the market to buy or to rent with chartered surveyors Roche after closing its doors two weeks ago.
Health-care healthiest jobs sector
Ann Kolstad, one of 45 nurses the Marshfield Clinic in Wisconsin plans to hire to help it comply with the health care overhaul, spent 20 minutes recently assisting a 43-year-old woman in sorting out her medical issues.
Blind in one eye, obese, diabetic and worried about losing her sight, the patient wanted gastric-bypass surgery to help her lose weight and control her diabetes. While the woman thought her insurance wouldn’t cover it, Kolstad determined it would.

Insurance short-sightedness
About once each decade, regional winter storms bring rotten branches down upon power lines and for days the populations suffer power outage in their isolated homes, suffering terrible cold. In desperation and at considerable expense, some of these agonized families, having no alternative heat, are driven to rent gasoline generators to bring their oil furnaces back to life, sometimes causing fatalities from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Koehler hosts unemployment workshop for local businesses
State Senator Dave Koehler (D-Peoria) recently hosted a workshop on unemployment insurance and the services offered by the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) at the East Peoria Chamber of Commerce. “Creating jobs is my number one priority,” Koehler said. “Government needs to work closely with local private businesses to put people to work at good-paying jobs. Since unemployment insurance is already a public-private collaboration, it makes sense to get business leaders together with government officials to make the system even stronger.” More than 40 business owners, managers, and entrepreneurs attended the workshop, where representatives from IDES answered questions and explained some of the services the department offers to Illinois companies. they explained how businesses can file unemployment insurance protests, detailed various state incentives for hiring new workers, shared Illinois labor market information, and demonstrated the Illinois Skills Match Exchange System, an online tool that helps employers find workers with the skills they need. “The Department of Employment Security does more than just manage unemployment,” Koehler explained. “It helps business owners and managers find the right employees for their open positions. Matching up skilled employees with growing businesses helps the economy grow.” Koehler emphasized that he wants to work with local businesses to improve the Peoria-area economy and strengthen Illinois’ place in the global market. “As a small business owner myself, I understand the complex relationship between entrepreneurs and government,” Koehler said. “I want to work with local job creators to make Illinois more business friendly, and I encourage them to come to me with their frustrations and ideas.”
Many homeowners find themselves without flood insurance
Flood Insurance K I WOO the Nation November 10, 2011 3:02 am
Middle- and high-income homeowners in Bangkok’s northern suburbs have suddenly realised that if the floodwaters that are now more than one metre in many homes persist for several months, their Bt5 million-Bt8 million homes will require tremendous refurbishing costs.
several executives told the Nation that they estimated it would cost about Bt2-3 million to refurbish their flood-soaked homes especially if putrid and smelly floodwaters persist.
At the floods’ onset, Jirapa Suphakiatkamchorn, an executive at Human Capital Alliance, said she carefully reviewed her homeowner’s policy and discovered her home was not covered.
“The policy covered water damage from a pipe-burst but would not cover any flood damage,” she said.
