2010 Supplemental Revenue Assistance Program (SURE)
the 2010 SURE signup will begin Nov. 14, 2011. SURE provides benefits to producers who suffered farm revenue losses due to natural disasters. to be eligible for 2010 SURE the following conditions must be met: – at least one crop of economic significance must suffer a 10% production loss due to an eligible disaster condition. – producers must have purchased crop insurance on all crops of economic significance. – crop of economic significance is a crop that has contributed or would have contributed at least 5% or more of the total expected revenue from all crops on the farm. Mercer County was declared a primary disaster county by the Secretary of Agriculture for 2010 and is eligible for the 2010 SURE Program. SURE is available to eligible producers on: 1) Farms in counties with secretarial disaster declarations, including contiguous counties that have incurred at least a 10 percent crop production or quality loss, or both, on all crops grown by a producer except grazed crops. 2) Farms in which, for the crop year, actual production on the farm because of disaster-related conditions is 50 percent or less than normal production of the farm. WASHINGTON, DC – Texas cotton producer Jimmy Dodson told a Farm Foundation forum audience today that risk management tools, particularly crop insurance, “are extremely important to cotton producers.” Dodson, chairman of the National Cotton Council’s American Cotton Producers, was a participant in a panel discussion on “The Future Role of the Federal Government in Agricultural Risk Management” held at the National Press Club.Dodson said that in many parts of the Cotton Belt, “purchasing adequate crop insurance is often a requirement for securing financing for production costs. in today’s environment, we do not see that requirement changing. As such, it is our hope that crop insurance products can be enhanced to further protect producers from events beyond their control.”
Farm advisers say MF Global debacle erodes market confidence
INDIANAPOLIS (Reuters) – Agricultural bankers and advisers say the bankruptcy of giant futures brokerage MF Global has shaken the farm world’s opinion of futures trading and action must be taken to restore confidence in the system.
Lenders, farmers and farm advisers at the annual meeting of the North American Agricultural Bankers Association here said they were not shocked that a firm like MF Global could run aground trading its own money in volatile world markets.
DA-PCIC pays Luzon farmers initial P24-M crop insurance

A resolution calling for a federal farm program that provides a strong safety net for farm income using a combination of crop insurance and a revenue assurance program was among more than 100 resolutions passed by the Oklahoma Farm Bureau state resolutions committee in Oklahoma City. The proposal will be voted on during the annual OFB convention Nov. 11-13, in Oklahoma City.
Demand For Row Crops Cuts Ontario Forage Acreage
Forage acreage declined slightly in Ontario this year according to OMAFRA.
The ministry’s forage seasonal summary says some of those fields were converted to row crops to take advantage of higher commodity prices.
Specialist Joel Bagg says increased land costs and rental rates have pushed farmers to improve their forage management to make every acre count.
